The three satellites form a&nbsp;triangle with an edge of 2.5 million kilometres. Using laser interferometry, they accurately measure their distance to each other, which changes when a&nbsp;gravitational wave passes through.<\/p>\n<p>The FSUA mechanism is used to switch between primary and redundant laser beams. Basically, it is a&nbsp;precise rotary table that rotates the optical element.
